The most important thing about any music lesson is that it works for you.
I'll work with you to establish goals to structure our work together. Some people like to aim at exams, others prefer to set different aims like performing for friends and family, starting a band or getting a specific piece under your belt (or fingers!).
First steps & practice
In the first few weeks, we'll work together to develop a practice routine you can stick to. Many people worry about finding lots of time to play, but in the beginning - or after a break - it's more important to develop the habit of practising regularly than to play for hours. Even 10-15 minutes can get you moving.
Developing skills
I believe it's good for musicianship to be able both to read printed music, and to develop the confidence to play by ear and improvise. The balance can be guided by you and the aims we agree, but I will encourage you to explore both.
What you'll play
You might want to stick to classical pieces, or you might prefer to explore other styles like jazz or play popular pieces from albums you own. I think it's a shame when students are pushed to learn pieces which don't inspire them so I'll recommend different pieces and composers to try, and encourage you to develop a repertoire of pieces you love.
